Prison Digital Access Management
A large prison in south Asia and one of the largest prisons in the country, it was relocated in the year 2006 & built on 212 acres of land. The facilities include cells and dormitories with windows, lavatories with doors, meditation hall, library, amphitheatre, auditorium, jail court with the video-conferencing facility, high-security blocks, a hospital, gym, rehabilitation block and separate crossbeams for men and women prisoners.
The Challenge
Multiple facilities in the prison had to be managed effectively, demarcated zones with high security needed additional access control mechanisms. To operate the barracks, blocks & high security/ restricted areas required user-defined access. A bunch of keys with colour tags added confusion during shift change & movement of prisoners from their cells to work areas and vice versa.
The mechanical keys needed frequent maintenance and replacement due to security reasons. During prisoner riots, it took time for an officer to stop the damage as keys were being kept in a commonplace which delayed prompt corrective action. The existing security systems were often compromised due to frequent power outages.
This resulted in deploying additional resources (officers) during outages. The prison management wanted to reduce the number of interactions between officers and convicts to eliminate corruption.
The Solution
Acsys Bluetooth Key Mobile App solution
The Benefit
Easy-to-implement solution with near-zero installation cost ensured that the installation was done quickly with onsite training to officers and other prison staff. Using Acsys software, security managers were able to change or cancel user-access permission at any time
This helped them track, monitor and control the prison better with features like time & attendance management system.
Access rights were defined for each officer based on various sections of the prison to streamline operational efficiency during shift change or prisoner movement within the complex.
Post solution deployment, the prison reported zero jailbreaks or prisoner riots. Time & attendance management features resulted in high operational efficiency and better workforce management.
Helped reduce the number of staff deployed during each shift due to the passive nature of the devices.
One emergency key to prison in-charge resulted in surprise inspections, which ensured 100% adherence to defined SLAs for support staff and on-duty officers.
